Kristt has
over 40 employees and has been in business for 60 years. We sell
everything from paper clips to integrated cash register and computer
systems. Our 2 locations service Sullivan, Orange, Ulster, Wayne and Pike
Counties. And with over 2500 copiers in the field, Kristt is the largest
copier dealer in the area.
It was back in 1937 that Nathan Kristt established Kristt Co. as a
single proprietorship with the help of his dad Harry. They started by
selling and repairing big heavy L.C. Smith manual typewriters in their
house.
In 1969 Les Kristt graduated Cornell University and joined the firm. During the winter of '69 there were 4 persons working at Kristt Co. In 1975, after incorporating and with a great deal of hard work and good fortune, the first part of our current home was built at 159 Broadway. At that time we had 7 employees and 7500 square feet of space. In 1977 Nathan passed away and Les Kristt took ownership of the company.
In 1981 Kristt Co. became an authorized Mita copier dealer. That marked the beginning of an intensive push to become a first class and well-trained office equipment and supply center. Subsequently Kristt Co. took lines of fax equipment, computers, printers and multifunctional machines and digital equipment.
In 1981 "the house next door" was purchased and turned into the Art Shoppe. In 1984, Mr Gene Kelly joined Kristt Co. as a delivery driver. We also put on our first addition of a 3000 square foot warehouse. In 1985, we connected the main building to the Art Shoppe with an interesting 4500 Sq. ft. addition. Then in 1987 we added on out other 3000 sq. ft. warehouse. In 1990, we opened a satellite store in Honesdale, Pa.
As we have expanded our physical plant, we have tried to concurrently keep pace inside with a modern look, and products that are the tip of technology. We have departmentalized into office supplies, small business machines, mailing equipment, copiers, computers, furniture, a complete copy center, art supplies and a first class framing shop. We service every single product that we sell with 8 full time copier techs and 4 full time small equipment techs. They are supplemented with 2 full time dispatchers.
Over the last few years we have migrated towards upper end technology by taking on the design and installation of network computer systems and allied digital multifunction products. We have expanded our product lines to include not only Mita but Ricoh, Hewlett-Packard, Brother, Francotyp Postalia, Canon, Samsung and many others. We sell everything for the office from pencils and post-it notes to integrated cash register/computer systems to postage meters, from the chair you sit in, to the pictures on the walls.
A few years ago Gene Kelly was named general manager and was elected Corporate Secretary. Les Kristt remains the Corporate President. We recently enlarged our parking facilities and have remodeled the inside of the retail part of out building. We now have as many as 50 service crazed employees waiting to help you on the phone or in person.
